Victoria park visit
This blog is written in response to the thinking activity on the academic visit of Victoria Park given by Yesha Bhatt Ma'am at the Department of English, MKBU
The Purpose of the Visit
The Purpose of the visit to Victoria park was not just visiting it but it had another alternate purpose of understanding Romanticism. The Masters of Romanticism like Wordsworth, Keats, Shelley were driven by the nature and as the students of Literature we have Romanticism as topic to Study and that's why it becomes clear to us to understand the masters of Romanticism and the essential part of the movement Romanticism, Nature.
So, Victoria Park became our destination to understand Romanticism and to enjoy Nature.
Why Victoria Park
First we need to know a few things about the park.
Victoria Park is a reserved forest range in the heart of Bhavnagar city. This park is one of the oldest man made forests in India, made in 1888 by Mr Proctor Sins for Maharaja Takhtasinhji of the Bhavnagar city. it's maintenance is prioritised by the Indian government. Victoria Park is spread across a sprawling 500 acres of land. The park is also connected to Gaurishankar lake and the lake view from the park is spectacular and this spot is highly popular among the tourists.
Those were the facts that you read above but if you think from another perspective it's more than just a park.
Victoria Park gives Contrast to daily urban life. In the present time we see that the greenery is decreasing and the pollution is spreading and then we see Victoria Park that is man-made and is still perfectly maintained. In the middle of the city is a forest that provides clean air, best views, and a fine Natural environment.
It's a gift for the residents of bhavnagar city that they have to only step into the Park and they come into the lap of nature.
How Nature influences
When one encounters Nature and Truly understands Nature and if the person has perfect sense to express and can make something out of it then he tries to imitate Nature. Maybe that's what would have happened to the Romantic poets and that happened to Us also. But being a literary Artist and Literary Student are two different things.
As a student I can only try to understand the literary work and appreciate it. Unless I have the ability to create a poem or any other literary art, I would like to avoid it. Without any Knowledge or deep understanding I can only be an interpreter, who is influenced by the other geniuses. But that can stop me from experiencing and appreciating the Nature.
I can experience its fragrance and elements and the scenery that demonstrates the power and greatness of the one true mother of all the living things on the Earth, The Nature.
